Therapies

‘Where all children can overcome their barriers to learning and grow as individuals’

Therapies

We have several therapies to support us in school.

We have Speech and Language Therapists both from the NHS and Hampshire County Council.  The therapists spend two days a week in school, working closely with class teams to; make assessments, produce speech programs for delivery in the class, facilitate speech and language groups, support with Augmentative Alternative Communication systems (AAC), liaise with families and ensure maximum communication opportunities.

For one morning a week we have a Sensory Integration Occupational Therapist, who will assess children with a range of sensory needs.  Children can be referred to her by the class staff.  After spending time with a child and identifying the specific individual needs, she will devise a sensory diet for the child.  This can be used both in school and at home to help reduce sensory difficulties.  The sensory integration Occupational Therapist’s time is funded privately by the school.

The school hosts a variety of clinics, ensures minimal time lost out of school for appointments and can reduce anxiety for some children.  Currently the following specialists will come into school: Community Paediatricians, Audiology, School Nursing Team, Podiatry, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapists.

The Treehouse is our Nurture Room.  This is a specialist provision for children experiencing Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties.  A specialist intervention called Emotional Literacy Support (ELSA) also takes place in the Treehouse.

Our art specialist is trained in Drawing and Therapy, a safe method of working with children to help with underlying emotional difficulties that may be affecting their learning and behavior.  The school can also offer bereavement support and therapy to help a child cope with loss.
