Admissions Policy
Our school is designated to meet the needs of children with moderate difficulties. Each of our children/young people either has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
Hampshire Local Authority is responsible for the maintenance of EHCPs for all the children at Heathfield School unless the young person lives in another local authority, in that case it will be that local authority’s responsibility.
As a part of the EHCP process school are consulted with by the SEN department of the local authority. Parents/carers should be provided with a list of possible settings for their young person. Parents/carers are welcome to visit us to help decision making. However, the Local Authority makes the final decision about which school to name on each child’s/young person’s EHCP.

What happens if my child/young person gets a place?
Prior to admission as part of the partnership and induction process parents/carers are encouraged to visit the school with their child/young person as well as to receive a home visit from their child’s class teacher or the SHIP worker. All parents will be asked to complete an ‘admissions pack’ prior to their child starting school, to ensure the school has all the necessary information to make sure their child is safe and happy.
The Federation will work with each family on devising the best transition for their young person as we recognise that every one of our pupils/students are an individual and each require something a little different.

How to apply for transport assistance to a SEN school or placement

The deadline for on-time applications for September 2026 is 30 June 2026.
Applications received after this date will still be processed but transport may not be in place for the beginning of the school year.
It can take up to 10 working days for a decision to be made on a school transport application. This can take longer between the peak months for applications – March to August. Following an approval decision, it can take up to 15 working days to make the actual transport arrangements. Therefore, you should be aware it can take up to 25 working days to start your child on transport. Prior to transport starting it is still a requirement for your child/young person to attend school and it is parental/carer responsibility to arrange this in the interim.
The application will be reviewed by the School Transport Service who work closely with the Children's SEN Service. The process is:
1. Parent/carer submits an online application
2. School Transport receive and assess the application
3. If the application is eligible then an approval update is sent via the online portal
4. If the application is NOT eligible then a rejection reason will be sent via the online portal.
If you are the parent/carer of a child with SEN seeking transport for a respite placement, you must contact your Social Worker.
